The concept for an enterprise centre originated from investigations into Beverley’s deep industrial history which had been powered by its canal since medieval times. With the collapse of the UK’s manufacturing industry the area around the canal had been left derelict and stood in dark contrast to the historic town centre with its imposing cathedral. This inspired a project that would bring workers and activity back to the waterside in the form of Hi-tech industry and flexible office space. The form of the complex was influenced by existing and past structures, in particular the curving nature of the beck.
